The day that many poker players and industry members have long feared has come to pass - the US Congress has passed a bill that calls for the enforcement of a ban on internet gambling, including internet poker. The bill, which has passed the House of Representatives and the US Senate in the past, but never both together, was attached to a Port Safety Bill, which virtually guaranteed that the poker bill would pass. While many poker players are crying foul, the bill does not target them, but rather the financial institutions that would allow transactions to fund online poker accounts. The Poker Players Alliance, a grassroots organization dedicated to protecting and preserving the game of poker, is still taking on members in hopes of turning the tide of the legislation.
