York Council Shuts Down Pub Poker

Poker playing citizens of York have been put on notice by the council chief, who recently put the message out that the illegal pub poker craze in York has got to stop. The message, delivered straight at bar owners, was that what they are doing by turning their drinking establishments into card clubs, was breaking the law, and it could really hurt them. City of York Council members don't want to ruin people's fun, but they have to uphold the law, and are taking steps to warn The Acomb, in Kingsway North, along with other establishments, that they should rethink their poker fever. Pub owners who run straightforward games, with strict rules and no rowdy behavior, will be hard pressed to give up the big draw that the poker games bring on, but will have to do so in the face of the law or face charges instead.
