A recent membership drive by the Poker Players Alliance netted more than 1,200 new players, thanks to a partnership with online poker room Poker Stars and the enticement of what poker players love to do more than anything else - namely, play poker. Poker Stars held a $5,000 guaranteed tournament for only $1 entry fee, with a membership in the Poker Players Alliance given away with registration. These events started on Wednesday and will continue through Sunday, with events playing at 9:30 pm. The PPA is trying to increase the ranks of membership to the point where they can successfully lobby against the current federal legislation that threatens to enforce a ban on online poker. The bill, already passed by the US House of Representatives, awaits approval by the US Senate.
