When Harrah's Entertainment bought the Horseshoe Casino from the Binion family in Las Vegas, the World Series of Poker and its brand name passed to them as well. Now Harrah's is suing to try and obtain ownership of the domain name WSOP.com, currently owned by Federico Schiavio. Schiavio purchased the domain name before Binion's Horseshoe Casino was sold to Harrah's, and he had good reason to, as he was the information technology director for Binion's. Schiavio has applied to trademark the WSOP term, which on his site stands for World Standard of Online Poker, and Harrah's is entreating the courts to disallow the trademark in addition to awarding the WSOP.com domain to Harrah's Entertainment. The Trademark office is still reviewing Schiavio's application.
