Illegal Poker Busts on the Rise

In what appears to be a rising trend across the nation, another poker ring was broken up in Ohio. Twenty one people were charged and three people were arrested for participating in what appears to be an illegal poker ring. These arrests were made in West Toledo, Ohio, according to a search warrant.After three months of investigating suspects, a warrant was obtained to search the building at 1446 Sylvania Ave. in West Toledo. The result was the apprehension of the suspects and the confiscation of equipment ranging from all types of poker wares, video equipment, and over $4,000 in cash. The confessed ringleader, Steve Lang of West Toledo, admitted to masterminding the illegal poker ring. He will face felony charges of operating a casino. After is arraignment he was released on bond.According to the BBC, illegal poker is on the rise largely due to the popularity of the game. As a result, stings and crackdowns on poker are also on the rise as authorities attempt to enforce the prevailing law that poker and gambling are illegal.
