287 riders converged on Houston County Monday for a poker run to benefit the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes. The successful poker runners raised over $7500 in much needed funding for the Youth Homes.A poker run is a fundraising effort in which riders donate to complete a course with at least five stops. At each of these stops, riders pick up a card to complete a poker hand. At the end of the course, whoever has the best hand wins.Riders representing Dublin, Pinehurst, Hawkinsville, Cochran, Fort Valley, Montezuma, Forsyth, Milledgeville, Rentz, Perry, Unadilla, Kennesaw, and Macon showed up at the poker run. The run also commemorated Ronnie Harlowe, Jr., son of one of the organizers of the race, Sgt. Ronnie Harlowe. Harlowe Jr., a prior poker run participant, was killed earlier this year in a motorcycle accident.
