Having poker recognized as an official sport in Czechoslovakia would make the games safer according to the Czech Association of Poker Clubs, which points out that some poker clubs that target tourists are run by the Czech mafia. There are some estimated 60,000 Czechs who play poker, and the CAPC says they will benefit as well if the Finance Ministry would just recognize the game as an official sport. The CAPC has even retained legal council to aid them in putting forth their idea.
