Many professional poker players are often heard complaining about the large number of players at the World Series of Poker. Considering the fact that a few years ago there were just over 600 players at the WSOP Main Event and this year there were over 8700 players, there is something to the complaints - many players feel like you have to win the lottery in order to win the event. In other venues, however, such as the recently begun the 2006 Bicycle Casino Legends of Poker, the majority of the field are big-name professionals, and the fields are rather small. On Day 1A, the first of two starting days, there were only 234 players - compared to over 2000 players on the same day at the WSOP. There were plenty of big-name poker players, including Phil Hellmuth, who showed up customarily late about 2 hours and a half.
