Jamie Dean, a professional online poker player, has been convicted of cannabis possession and the intent to supply it to others. Dean, who had told a jury that he had smoked cannabis from the age of 14, began to grow his own in order to ensure he had access to it, and to control the quality. He bailed pending sentence at Warrington Crown Court after a conviction.
When police searched Dean's living quarters in June of last year, they found 40 ounces of herbal cannabis drying on lines in the upstairs attic, all of which Dean said he would have eventually smoked and was not for sale. Dean claimed to be a successful online poker player and thus would not have need to become a cannabis supplier. Part of the conviction came due to Dean's possession of an echo chamber for growing the plants.
