Harley Poker Run Riders Raise Money for Special Olympics

By launchpoker, Aug 10, 2006

Some may consider it an oddity that two activities so closely associated with the rough-and-tumble world are also two activities that often produce the most generous donations of money and personal time from the participants. When one thinks of Harley riders or poker players the Special Olympics does not immediately come to mind, but it is the organization that will benefit from an upcoming poker run where members of the Blue Knights Illinois IV and Wind and Fire Chapter 48 will participate and raise money and awareness. Both groups, comprised of police officers and firefighters, like to promote motorcyclists in a positive light. A poker run consists of motorcyclists who ride a predetermined route, making stops along the way to pick up playing cards. At the end of the run, the best poker hand wins a prize and all entry monies go to charity.
