2006 WSOP: Annie Duke Out of the WSOP

By launchpoker, Aug 7, 2006

A woman hasn't ever won the World Series of Poker's Main Event, although some have come close. The one woman many expect will take it all some day is Annie Duke, a professional poker player who is ranked among the top in the world. Although this won't happen this year as Annie got busted out of the event.

Duke began playing poker after her brother, another big-name professional poker player known as "The Professor" Howard Lederer, who was responsible for bringing her into the world of tournament poker and getting her started. Duke busted out in the eighty eighth position Sunday afternoon when she went all in before the flop with an ace and a three. She was not able to catch another ace and her opponent held pocket eights. After starting the day with nearly one million in chips she busted out of the event and took home a little over $50,000.
