When Pacific Poker and 888.com announced their gaming revenues, the numbers showed a drop in the three months to June 30, and football is to blame. 888.com representatives have pointed to the Euro 2008 football tournament as the culprit, saying that online poker players stopped playing during the run of the tournament to watch it on the television. Poker revenues were down an average of $116 per player. The same effect seems to occur every time around the time of the Euro football tournament, but this year’s drop was greater than the previous years'.
