When the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) went into effect in 2006 it upset the online poker community, but it did not expressly label online poker as illegal. A new bill, HR 6663, called Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Clarification and Implementation Act (UIGECIA), which was described as a positive element as it would clarify the UIGEA, is upsetting poker players and the Poker Players Alliance. It turns out that the UIGECIA wants to specify sports betting online as illegal, and by doing so implicate online poker as illegal.
