2006 WSOP: WSOP Main Event Starts Today

Today is the day that literally thousands of poker players and likely millions of poker fans have been dreaming of. This is the day that the Main Event of the 2006 World Series of Poker begins. While the final numbers are not in yet, and technically won't be in for days, more than six thousand players have already paid their $10,000 to play in this event, or had it paid for them by a sponsor. The field of players is expected to be so large that it had to split over four days, and today is 1A. Play will continue today until the field gets down to 800 players, who will then get a break to play against the 800 survivors of day 1B on Tuesday, August 1st.
