2006 WSOP: Norman Chad's WSOP Column Misleading

As published online at www.thestate.com, Norman Chad, co-host of the World Series of Poker TV show as broadcast on ESPN, discusses the phenomenon that is the WSOP and the focus on amateurs ruling the event over the last few years. He cites the last three champions of the WSOP as Chris Moneymaker, an accountant, Greg Raymer, a former patent attorney, and Joe Hachem, an ex-chiropractor. He lists only their profession outside of the world of poker as if to say that they had no poker pedigree, as it were, for winning the WSOP. He fails to mention in his column that Moneymaker, Raymer and Hachem had all been playing poker for years and, in the case of Raymer, had attended the WSOP many times before. Hachem's win was on his first visit to Las Vegas, but he had been playing pro poker in Australia for years previously.
