UK Pub Poker Faces Crackdown by Watchdogs

Despite the fact that the United Kingdom will soon welcome online gambling as a legal pursuit within its borders, poker playing at the local pub has become a bad idea. The Gambling Commission, perhaps in the wake of US activity leaning toward the complete outlawing of online poker play and its persecution, fears that criminals lay in wait for poker players lured into high stake games of chance in local pubs.



A huge increase in poker games in pubs has lead to an increase in violence, or so the Gambling Commission claims, as well as eager poker players being cheated at the table. When the 2005 Gambling Act goes into affect next year, it will provide clear guidelines for poker loving businesses to follow.
