The first company permitted to host a poker tournament in Singapore will be Betfair, who will kick things off with a bang by offering an anticipated two million dollar prize pool. The online poker company will team with Capital Events to host the event in November. Betfair Poker will begin offering satellites and qualifiers online and various live poker venues around the world will also offer seats into the Singapore event.
Even local players will have a chance to qualify, and the event will be filmed and televised, distributed to international broadcasters as the Betfair Asian Poker Tour, featuring players from all across the globe. There has been some speculation that this event could open the way for poker to become a bigger force in Singapore and a chance for local players to make a name for themselves.
