Last year the World Series of Poker shattered attendance and pay out records when nearly thirty thousand players participated in 45 different poker events. More than $103 million was the goal, shared out among the winners in proportion to their finishing numbers. The big story of the year was the Main Event a $10,000 buy in that saw 5,619 players with $7.5 million going to the winner. This year the executives at Harrah's Entertainment, the casino company that owns the WSOP franchise, are expecting around 41,000 players, and are anticipating 8,000 for the Main Event. The big prize this year could top $10,000 for the champion of the No Limit Texas Hold'em main event.
