It seems that the final shot has been fired in the North Carolina Versus Video Poker battle. Having raged for years, the debate was whether or not video poker should remain in the southern state. On one side were the Sheriffs' Association and many lawmakers to say that keeping video poker owners honest was more trouble than it was worth. On Tuesday, Governor Mike Easley signed a bill that bans all video poker machines in the state by July of 2007. The new bill will gradually reduce the number of machines allowed in any one location for three down to zero by that time.
Owners of registered machines feel they were unfairly targeted by this bill and many say they will have to close down shops as they depend on these poker machines for a large percentage of their livelihood.
