Daryl Giesbrecht was breaking the law. The poker player started to run an illegal gambling poker game, set up when Medicine Hat Casino stopped running poker games. The medicine Hat Poker League has been shut down by the law, ending a two year run. Daryl and his pals set up the League so that they and their poker playing acquaintances would have a chance to play Texas Hold 'em, the very popular poker variant that is on the majority of poker TV shows.
The ring leader was charged for gambling without a license and ordered to pay over six thousand dollars in fines. After he pled guilty, the charges against five others were dropped, putting them in the clear.
