South Carolina's 200-year-old gaming law, which bans games of cards and dice, may soon come under attack by a group of poker players who were arrested for gambling. The poker players, including Robert Chimento, may seize this opportunity to challenge the old law, written back in 1802, hoping to get it changed and updated to reflect the times.22 people were arrested in April when police raided a poker game. Nearly $6,000 was seized in that raid. Four of those players, who were from out of town, paid $100 fines after pleading guilty. The remaining 18 have asked for trial by jury and pleaded not guilty. The out-of-towners simply wanted to put the matter behind them while the locals have a vested interest in getting the laws changed.
