With the concerns of crime and money laundering plaguing the online poker industry in South Africa the government has taken steps to defuse the situation by passing legislation to regulate Internet gambling. The new law was recently approved by South Africa's Parliament in order to address the negative side of online gambling and replace it with the positive. The Act would allow for an electronic monitoring system that would place credit restrictions on poker players to avoid problem gambling incidents. Before the bill can become law it still needs the signature of President Thabo Mbeki.
