The southern state of North Carolina has had a long, rough relationship with video poker, and recent testimony seems to indict the Sheriff of Haywood County in a bribery operation to allow illegal video poker to operate. Jerry Pennington, a Henderson Amusement Inc employee, has testified that Haywood County Sheriff Tom Alexander took thousands of dollars every month to not bust the company running the poker games. The testimony came during the trial of former Buncombe County Sheriff Bobby Medford, who also is accused of taking tens of thousands of dollars in poker related criminal bribes.
