China Online Poker in Doubt

Playtech Ltd has signed an agreement to bring online poker to mainland China, but recent activities in that country have thrown the whole operation into doubt. The Chinese Communist Youth League, or CYL, had intended to bring Peer to Peer poker to the Chinese in internet cafes, with tourney games with cash prizes. Recently, however, Beijing officials have given the China Association of Social Workers authority in that area, and that organization has begun to crack down on illegal online lotteries, making investors in Chinese online poker anxious about their future projects.
