North Carolina House Speaker Jim Black is all for keeping the video game industry around the southern state, despite a growing call from many legislators to ban the machines. He claims job retention is the major reason for his support of the video game industry, but many of his opponents on the issue are calling foul.
The opposition claims that video poker is a more addictive form of gambling that the state lottery, a recent institution that many had hoped would spell the end of video poker. The claim that taxpayers are paying more than is acceptable in order to keep video game manufactures in business is a recent one heard on Internet news pages and blogs. It is likely that the war will continue to wage over the banning of video poker machines for some time to come.
