In the first month of this year a legislation was proposed to the Washington State Senate to clarify and reaffirm the issue surrounding the prohibition against internet gambling. The legislation was put forth by Democratic State Senator Margarita Prentice and was called Senate Bill 6613. About five months later, that bill has now been passed into law moving the penalty for online wagering in the state up a few notches on the punishment ladder. Now, rather than being charged with a misdemeanor, any such citizens charged will be slapped with a Class C Felony, carrying with it a potential of ten years in prison. This punishment is normally reserved for Sex Offenders who fail their probation requirements, but will now apply to any convicted under the new law.
