The United States is not the only country in the world that has a problem with the legality of online poker, which may come as a surprise. Legislation was passed in the European country that would block Italians from accessing online poker sites by interfering with respective ISPs (Internet Service Providers) in the country. Over 800 online poker and gambling sites were affected, prevented from operating in Italy by the Italian Finance Act. In a move that aroused suspicion the Italian government ruled that Eurobet was allowed to operate in Italy. Recently the Civil Tribunal of Rome ruled that another outfit, Astrabet, would be removed from the list of banned sites, effectively breaking the de facto government monopoly on online gaming. This move may set a precedent that would allow other online poker sites to operate in Italy in the future.
