She claimed her theft of nearly forty grand was brought on by an addiction to video poker, and her attorney pleaded with the judge to go easy on her when it came to jail time. The plea worked as the former Multnomah County employee, 37 year old Diata Demanje Rhodes, got a five year probation and a demand to pay back the $39,000 she stole. Her attorney pointed out that she was depressed following an abortion and a break up with her boyfriend and was not in her right mind during the period of thefts. She also was getting over the death of her dog.
