Virginia Poker Tourney Shut Down

By launchpoker, Apr 15, 2007

In Portsmouth, VA, city officials have forced the closing of poker events, even those played for charity. Vice President of the Virginia Fraternal Order of Police Skip Blanchard said that by June 10 there will be no more Texas Holdem charitable tournaments. There is a one-year contract the FOP has with the bingo hall where the games are played but that ends in June. Blanchard said that they are keeping the promise they made with the city, that if they asked them to stop the games, they would. Organizers have raised $88,000 for the state FOP's charitable foundation and the Portsmouth Catholic Elementary School.
