Iowa Representative Jim Leach has taken the battle against online poker directly to the online poker rooms themselves, with a proposed law known as H.R. 4411. Should his propsed legislation pass it would effectively make it illegal for Internet gambling sites to accept money from the standard electronic transfer methods. Credit cards, wire transfers, EFTs (Electronic Fund Transfers) and even checks would be deemed taboo when it came to financial transactions. This would impact not only those transactions originating in the United States but all over the world. This bill was introduced near the end of 2005 and recently passed through House Financial Services Committee. If the law is enacted the offshore sites that this law specifically targets would be breaking the law if they accepted payments from the US.
