One of the most successful ways charities have of getting people out and involved in their cause — not to mentions raising a little cash to help out along the way — are poker runs, events where participants travel a specific route, collecting poker cards and trying to make the best poker hands. A few small businesses in O'Brien County, Iowa, figured out a way to emulate the popular format of poker runs to drum up awareness of their small town shops.
While this format does not involve poker cards, the idea is the same. Interested shoppers gather coupons from a local paper and flyers, and then bring them to the participating stores, where they are stamped. They can then turn each stamped coupon in as tickets in a lotto to win prizes.
