For every amateur poker player out there, the idea of being sponsored for a year in 12 major poker tournaments would be a dream come true, which is exactly what is happening for Newport Beach, CA resident Jim Davenport after he won the Poker Room.com event, "Become A Poker Pro." The event, held aboard Royal Caribbean's Majesty of the Seas cruise ship, pitted Jim against a field of hopefuls, and in the end Jim came out on top. His prize? $60,000 and a year's worth of sponsoring from the online poker room, which means that 12 events will be paid for, including travel and accommodations, over the next 12 months. The value of his prize package is a quarter million dollars. The 69 players in the event competed first online until a final table was determined, then the event was paused until the finalists could be brought together to play.
