In Canada, the government of Ottawa has been looking at legislation similar to the US' UIGEA in order to block financial transactions to online poker sites, but one group in particular thinks they should be exempt. According to the Mohawks of Kahnawake the Canadian law - and in fact all Canadian laws - do not apply to them because they are a sovereign nation. In addition a section of the Constitution that was created to protect native culture should apply; gaming as a form of settling disputes has been part of Mohawk culture for some time, according to them.
