In Cranbrook, British Columbia, the Cranbrook's Royal Canadian Legion decided to end a tradition rather than face mounting fines in the face of law enforcing measures. The Texas Hold'em events that were being held every Wednesday night since September have come to an end in the face of the fining, creating an unhappy group of people, some of whom traveled for more than an hour to arrive at the tournament. When the liquor inspector gave the Legion a tip that the B.C. Gaming commission was levying fines against establishments holding the Texas Hold'em events, the Legion decided to move in the safe direction. The 80 or more players who enjoyed the games might be disappointed, but the fines the Legion could have faced would have been hefty, leading to the eventual closing of the establishment.
