When a dedicated sports player takes an injury, he usually curses his luck at being put out of the game. Roberto Romanello likely did the same, but in retrospect figures his broken leg turned out to be a lucky thing. His tibia and femur bones were broken playing football, and that left him laid up with little to do. He tried his hand at online poker, and discovered he was pretty good at it. Good enough, in fact, to win a seat at a table in one of the biggest poker playing cities in the world, Las Vegas. The 29-year-old from Gorseinon had been playing poker for about a year when he was injured, and made a go of online poker for the first time. He paid £50 to play and won an entry to a £750 event. After winning that, he got a seat worth £15,5000.
