The Tournament Directors Association (TDA) recently held a meeting at the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and the result of the meeting was a new list of rules. The association, founded by Matt Savage, David Lamb, Linda Johnson and Jan Fisher in 2001, meets every year to go over new rules and evaluate current rules. This year two more rules were added to the previous year's 38, making a total of 40. Rules have been reworded and in some cases combined to clear up confusion. The new rules include a change to time based penalties for rules infractions, replacing them with the number of hands played or rounds.
