Poker continues to skyrocket in popularity, and nowhere is that more evident than in the charitable communities. With poker TV and online poker rooms so popular, it is a natural choice for charitable organizations seeking to raise some funds to do some good works. While many may argue the legal and moral issues that revolve around holding poker events in their communities, there is no arguing about how effective such events as No Limit Texas Hold'em tournaments are when it comes to bringing home the bacon for area charities.
One great example is the Ken-Rock Community Center in Rockford, Ill. This outfit counted on United Way funding to help support its programs, but lost a quarter of their annual $200,000 budget when the United Way withdrew its $50.000 contribution. The organization held four poker tournaments and ended up earning $60,000.
