It turns out that poker playing in Winnipeg is illegal. At least, the kind of poker playing that Coyotes nightclub has been hosting, Texas Hold'em events that have drawn hundreds of players over the last few months. This Sunday, however, there will be no game, as owner Carey Paul had to cancel the event after getting notification from the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission that what he was doing was illegal. Paul was affronted, pointing out that his first class event, which was giving away a seat in the World Series of Poker, to be played this summer in Las Vegas, that was worth ten thousand dollars, and he could not see why they had to target his place. However, the Winnipeg nightclub is not the only place under scrutiny by the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission; it was just the first bar that received notification.
