Oregon Poker Rules Murky Business

Recent events such as the Alpine Tavern raid by Oregon authorities to quell a poker game have left commentators in a quandary as to the legal justification of shutting down poker in the area. It turns out that Oregon law, according to the Oregon Criminal Code, holds poker playing that involves making bets in public is illegal. But, if the counties that the events take place in say it is okay, the cops won’t bother any games that go on.

Local officials have called the system counter intuitive, and once again American poker players are left wondering if they are breaking the law when they see a game being offered at a local restaurant. If the business owners don’t know if they are breaking the law by offering the games, how can the players be expected to know.
