German and Swedish poker players are facing an uncertain future in terms of online poker play now that the European Union has come after their governments for what is essentially a breach of contract. Sweden has a state run company, Svenska Spel, that has a monopoly on all online poker in the nation, while Germany has restrictions on online poker that are similar to those found in the United States with their Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. The EU holds that member nations cannot interfere with the businesses of other nations and defines Germany and Sweden's rules as doing such.
