Some people liken it to watching grass grow or paint dry, yet each year the crowds seem only to grow at places like the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, the location of the World Poker Tour Winter Open for 2006. Saturday afternoon saw dozens of spectators around the rails watching as the players battled it out for spots in the final event of a No Limit Texas Hold’em event. While there is no question that poker has become the latest spectator sport on TV, some find it odd that it would draw such an interested live crowd.
The TV viewers watch an hour or two of an event, ten or twenty hands with plenty of action, pivotal decision making, or important events such as when a player gets busted out. In a live event there is no fast forward button, and spectators watch hand after hand of bet, fold, fold, fold.
