Probation In The Cards For Poker Club Organizer

By launchpoker, Jan 30, 2006

Gerald Dickens and six dealers that worked for his large scale poker tournament recently pled guilty to illegal gambling charges Friday. In November the poker event was raided by Baltimore police, who shut down Dicken’s operation.

The 65 year old Dickens was charged with more than twenty counts of illegal gambling, three of which he pleaded guilty to on Friday. He only had to plead guilty to one charge for each night an undercover cop was observing his actions in running the illegal event as part of his plea agreement. At the time of the raid the operation, known as the Owls Nest, was labeled as the biggest bust in illegal gambling since the Prohibition. Eighty players were charged but later had the charges dropped by the prosecutors, saying the police had charged hem incorrectly.
