It's apparent by the title, but Dr. Michael Stelzer's "Mathematical Strategies to Winning Casino Poker" is a new book that puts math to use in helping the beginning poker player become a winner. Engineering Ph.D. and mathematician Stelzer provides a short history of poker as well as basic playing strategies that do not require previous poker skills. Stelzer approached writing this book from a math standpoint. It is a well held belief in poker that most correct decisions are mathematical in nature, giving players an edge based on pot odds and the likelihood of certain cards appearing.
