Around the United States charities are concerned that murky gambling laws will prevent them from raising funds through poker events, but not in all states. In sunny California one Boys and Girls Club has found a great way to bring in fund raising dollars as well as fun with Texas Hold'em poker tournaments. Held at Casino Morongo, the Boys and Girls Club of the Hi-Desert's Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament saw 81 players competing for top prize, which was $5,000.Ken Crow took home the first place prize, and Shannon Goodpaster took second, worth $3,000, and Jeff Smith grabbed $2,000 with third place. In all the Yucca Valley youth club raised $8,500 from the no-limit tournament.The club, which offers after school homework help, recreation, computer facilities, arts and crafts, sports and leadership programs, plans on holding another fund raising tournament in May.
