The Catawba Indian Tribe wants to operate video poker on its Rock Hill reservation, and the S.C. Supreme Court is now hearing arguments why this case should be an exeption to the law that outlaws video poker. A 1993 settlement and related state law allows video poker exclusively on the reservation according to the tribe. It will be up to a five-member court, as Chief Justice Jean Toal recused herself from the case due to a past involvement with the tribe - she represented the tribe as a private attorney prior to her appointment to the court.
