There are a host of named reasons to support the drive of many politicians to criminalize online poker playing. Senator Jon Kyl, a republican from Arizona, for instance, cites the potential negative influence on society and especially the children, who would have access to online poker and online casinos and use their parents credit cards to gamble. Kyl was the official who introduced the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act in 1995. Another reason exists however, that has lawmakers debating over dollars. An argument for both sides of the issue revolves around tax revenue; with some 80% of online poker site’s customers reportedly coming form the US, not a dime of those customers are paying income tax on their winnings. Those using this argument against online gambling state that it is allowing citizens to flaunt IRS law regarding reporting gambling income, while those using it pro-Internet gambling point out that, if the US would allow the registration and operation of online sites, those funds would be tracked and taxed.
