Companies that are taking advantage of a 270 day window of opportunity left open by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act had a good year, according to various sources. The window was granted to banks and credit card companies by the US federal authorities to allow them time to determine how best to stop money flowing from customers to online betting sites. Many companies that trade publicly were unable to take advantage of the window due to a desire to adhere to the laws, leaving four of the top five poker rooms in operation today operating from offshore tax shelters according to the Global Betting and Gaming Consultancy.
