Lady Gaga is not a poker player. I think a rather substantial argument could be made that Ms. Gaga doesn’t really qualify as a “lady” either ((I don't mean in the biological sense, any guy who can't figure out she is a lady should have their genitalia repossessed, but rather the society definition that includes crossed ankles and extending ones pinky while drinking tea). But that is neither here nor there. Her song “poker face” has done more to market Texas Hold’em then Gabe Kaplan and Vince Van Patten combined. Basically Lady Gaga relies on Texas Hold’em terms to describe things that would make Prince blush. The song “Poker Face” has been wildly popular and recently was subjected to a dramatic reading on British television by actor and world class weirdo, Christopher Walken.
For those who are unaware of who Christopher Walken is, suffice to say is that he is an actor, and the type of person who would have felt perfectly at home on the set of the old “Kenny Everett Video Show.” While he is probably not much more of a poker player then Ms. Gaga, he did her poker themed song proud as he performed the type of dramatic reading of “poker face” that would have made William Shatner weep with joy and envy.
Christopher did his “fireside” reading from a comfy chair on the popular, British, late night show, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. While this was not a poker show in the sense that “Late Night Poker” is a poker show, or “High Stakes Poker” is, it was still highly entertaining, and worth watching. Those who missed this may just surf on over to YouTube and watch it there.
While I doubt Mr. Walken or Ms. Gaga have ever spent any time playing online poker or Texas Hold’em in a casino, they have both done well as unwitting good will ambassadors for the sport.
