ALL IN, The Poker Musical

The Poker Musical

Chocolate is great, very few people will debate this point. It is even better when combined with vanilla ice cream, cookie dough, or Britney Spears (all three at once wouldn’t be bad either. Call me Britney…Please). There are some things you wouldn’t want to cover in chocolate. Broccoli comes immediately to mind. Asparagus, exposed electrical wires, Amy Winehouse, or a PMSing Komodo Dragon are probably things you would think twice before licking chocolate off of as well. In other words, great things are not great in every situation. Whoever decided to put together “ALL IN, The Poker Musical” should have figured this out before they sunk their life’s savings into developing this dubious piece of musical theater.

This musical is centered around characters who are all part of the “final nine” in a tournament. Each character comes from a different walk of life. I would appear whatever life journey brought these characters together in a tournament not only involved various trials, tribulations, and heartache, but also included three years of ballet and five years of Jazz/tap. This alone makes the musical unrealistic. Many poker players are barely up to the physical challenge of eating a burrito and breathing at the same time, let alone the cardio torture of sustained dancing (just kidding…at least about the burrito part).

This musical is the unholy mating of the WSOP Main Event, Mitch Albom’s book “Five People you Meet in Heaven”, and Flashdance. The most telling thing about this musical is that it played at the Rio for two days during July, and hasn’t been back since. When you go the website for this ALL IN, the only listing when you click the link for ticket information is the words “Stay Tuned for More Information”. Apparently no venue is breaking down their door to sign this piece theater. Chances are it will find a home, so beware of this play on your next trip to Vegas
