Poker Life

Poker Life

As with books, music and art, there are different styles of poker magazines. Basically, it boils down to what you are looking for in your reading experience. Some readers want to know the ins and outs of the poker experience, and are interested only in articles that will make them a better player. Other readers are interested in the current goings on in the poker world, wanting to know current standings and tournament information. Then there is the third category of readers: those that want to know about the lifestyle of the high roller, who want to bask in the glory of the gambling lifestyle. The stats and gaming tips aren't quite as important as an article that conveys the feelings of opulence associated with big-money gambling. It is for this third group that Poker Life was fashioned.  The magazine looks nice, with expert layout and very well-done ads and cover photography. The articles are based more on general topics than being focused on how to become a better player, yet it somehow feels right in Poker Life. The book does have some poker information, as well as interviews with players and articles on fine cars and fine food. This magazine is, more than anything, the literary equivalent of an all-you-can-eat-buffet. There's not enough of one article type to fill your verbal pallet, but there's a little of everything to whet your beak.  This magazine is published four times a year, and is priced at $4.99 an issue.
